On Hearing And Seeing A Greenfinch Poem by Francis Duggan

On Hearing And Seeing A Greenfinch

Rating: 5.0

A greenfinch on high branch of sunlit ash tree
A beautiful bird for to hear and to see
But 'tis not for the love of song that he does sing
With him song is a territorial thing
Amongst the higher branches in feathers of green
His kind are not often or easily seen
I often heard them singing in groves far away
When wildflowers were blooming in the month of May
By their songs or their chirps birds one does get to know
And our wonder of Nature it only does grow
The greenfinch he too has his patch to defend
And in Spring males of his own kind to him not a friend
The greenfinch I've known since I was a young boy
And learning of Nature a thing to enjoy.
