On Listening To The Melody Of The Dew Poem by Ahmad Shiddiqi

On Listening To The Melody Of The Dew

no love was ever adorned by any but itself
it is founded on a feeling which we have
let the great pioneer incarnated in dew's dream
if the poet write a true drama, it's to reform

Mozart's tune was as a gem concealed
when all the moments are gently housed
away! away! thou speaks to me of autumn
which in all my endless life I have not found

through thee alone the sea is carved
how many roses we met are blessed
a rainbow-path in thy worth
melodies emulate beyond the earth

rhyme no angel gladly sung
within the wider scope of the senses
the boldest romantic inspiration should be young
thine art is fullest for every devotion from the holiness

(with great admiration to Sarah Orne Jewett's
The Country of the Pointed Firs)
