One Justice System - Two Standards Poem by michael spangenberg

One Justice System - Two Standards

During the the summer of 1924
21-year old Johnny Dillinger robbed a
General store from petty cash, the proprietor
Resisted, and the 'public enemy #1' took off
Running down the street toward a getaway car.

Double-crossed by a friend, Johnny got caught
Appeared in court without legal representation
The court threw the book at him: he was
Sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison
Even though it was his first conviction.

In the winter of 2016
Lawyer Christine Lagarde was found
To be at fault for failing to challenge
A $420m compensation payout to a tycoon
Her PM's best friend, over a spurious bank transaction.

The Chief of the IMF has been found guilty of
Negligence by a French court for damaging the
Country over the fraudulent payout when she
Was the country's Finance Minister
But will not be fined or face prison.

Our Father in heaven,
Your will be done,
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our criminal negligence
as we also have unforgiven our debtors.
