One Shalom Between Two Poem by Kimberly Burnham

One Shalom Between Two

Peace is not limited
to the political
absence of war and enmity
to the social
absence of quarrel and strife

It encompasses deep healing
spirited values
divine sparks
above all wholeness

Shalom (שׁלום)
the Biblical Hebrew word
peace grows from a root
denoting wholeness
completeness bound to the notion
shelemut perfection

A state of well-being
tranquility prosperity
a sense of safety
at home and at the border
shalom is a blessing

Rules in the interest of shalom
written for the sake of peace
the world preserved
by justice and truth
tempered with peace

A time for peace
tranquility with a sense
of equity or loyalty
overcoming strife and quarrels
the pursuit of peace
an obligation
individuals and communities
seek internal peace
among families
between neighbors
linking two
at one with all
