Only A Guest Poem by Ray Hansell

Only A Guest

The greatest love I ever knew
I found the day I met you
The greatest day in my life
Was when you became my wife
Then you gave to us a son
That's when life became great fun
Teaching him things he had to know
He got smarter as he continued to grow
As he got older it was plain to see
He no longer needed you and me
He was old enough to branch out on his own
He no longer needed the safety of home
The years passed by with such speed
As we were getting older indeed
Soon simple tasks were difficult to do
The pains of growing old we finally knew
The winters seem colder then they ever were
Life continues to pass in a blur
I've enjoyed it all both good and bad
The happy times even the sad
You see, in every life so much goes on
That before you know it, it will all be gone
So, I'll sit back and enjoy the time that's left
Remember, by being born here we are still only a guest
