Only God Can Provide Poem by Sean Showalter

Only God Can Provide

We're all looking for love in each-other
In a father and mother
A sister and brother
A friend and a stranger
An enemy and lover
But only God can provide

And when we're left feeling rejected
Laughed at and ridiculed
Sick and infected
Beaten and broken
With our hearts dejected
Then we know only God can provide

So why do we continue to strive?
Putting our hope in the world outside?
Beyond the God that we all deny?
Why do we continue to live a lie?

We all like to run away
Chasing dreams
Of better and brighter days
Putting our hope
In a future that never stays
When only God can provide

And when the pain becomes too great
We use things and people
To try and escape
And make more victims
And add our share of hate
When only God can provide

So why do we continue to strive?
Putting our hope in the world outside?
Beyond the God that we all deny?
Why do we continue to live a lie?
