Only If People Understood Me Poem by Mirai Scarlett

I wouldn't have to cry,
Or shout like an animal.
I would not have to say...
That I'm not the criminal,
I wouldn't have to justify
any of my deeds....
I wouldn't have to take to my heart
everything that leads...
To pain, To sorrow
To grief
And people say there's no tomorrow
For me to change myself,
But I guess people dont understand me
I wish people understood me.
I promise to be
A better somebody
But why cant I get the chance to be
(a better somebody)
They think its true
And say maybe I should
Give up trying to be what I am not
But only.....if people.....understood me.
Then I'd not have to shout at everybody
saying that I am not wrong
And maybe I can correct myself
So please listen to me
Why cant people understand me
Why cant they listen to me
Only if, for once, People Understood Me
