Only When I Write Do I Really Live

Only when I write do I really live
The rest is shadow and waiting-
I am pathetic for this-
As a person
I am really a very silent human being,
But when I write
I somehow feel I live-
Even if I do not believe it
For long
After I am silent again-

After
by Robert Browning

Take the cloak from his face, and at first
Let the corpse do its worst!

How he lies in his rights of a man!
Death has done all death can.
