Only When I Write Do I Really Live - Poem by Shalom Freedman

Only when I write do I really live
The rest is shadow and waiting-
I am pathetic for this-
As a person
I am really a very silent human being,
But when I write
I somehow feel I live-
Even if I do not believe it
For long
After I am silent again-
