Only You Poem by Gina Roetina

Only You

The trails we walked
the talks we had
the laughs and tears we shared
under the stars, only you, no one else cared.

firm love instilled in my heart
survived all the years we spent apart
my heart felt it when you slipped away
but I searched to late to say goodbye
I thought I might find you someday
but there was no way

your essence joins with mine now and then
when for no reason my mind bring me back when
we walked in the sun rays
we lazed in the hay and had so much to say
of our past and of our plans we'd make someway
come true and with each smile, each word
that fell from your lips you made my world new

Summer days flew by......ah if only I knew
our time would be short
with no goodbye

Your essence joins with mine now and then
on these moments I cry quietly remembering when
we walked the trails
the talks we had
the laughter and tears
Still under the stars after all these years
only you, still I cry for those moments
when no one else cared.

for Gearld Francis Soules

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is for Jerry Soules a good friend of my mind whom I fell in love with as a young women and he came back into my life when I was about 25 and asked me to marry him and move to Georgia with him from NY. I didn't go, I said no, I had too much going on here. But it is the moment in my life I regret most. I searched for him every few years. Then I found out he had died in a car accident and I cried like we had seen each other everyday. I never stopped loving him. I still at times long for our childhood moments and the unique person he was. We never got to say goodbye and this is my goodbye and celebration of him.
