Open Window Poem by Barbara Villabol

Open Window

A curtain of shy caution lightly veils the window
Draw it back and see the deep blue of an early evening sky

Reflected in my eyes
Are years of seeing
Friendships, loves, compassion

Capacity to love grown rather than extinguished with each
Passing heartbreak
With such power
And the only earthly salvation
Is in the hands, heart, mind of another soul

Who remains aloof, a guarded heart
Inaccessible

There is light in this evening before the night
A whisper of a breeze
Denied passion stirs the curtain

The window is open
The doors were all closed you see

But this window, this window

Remains
Open
