Open Your Eyes

Now close your eyes and bow your head
Religion speaks today
Yet this is not how Jesus said
God’s children ought to pray. Jn.17: 1

Lift up; your head when God you seek. Mt.14: 19
When humble knees you bow
Raise high your head before you speak. Ps.24: 7
Through Christ, who shows us how. Jn.11: 41

If Christ Himself would pray this way Jn.17: 1
If David did the same Ps.21: 1
With open eye we too won’t stray
Nor will we die in shame

To You my God I raise my Ps.123: 1
My hands I lift up too Ps.28: 2
For you alone make children wise Pr.2: 6
And show them what to do Pr.3: 6

When others say that eyes must close
That all must bow the head
Remember what the bible shows
How Jesus Christ has led

When Steven looked to God in prayer Ac.7: 55
Beholding Heaven’s light
His eyes could see the Father there
With Jesus on His right Ac.7: 56

Reject the devil’s evil lies
Religion’s foolish way
Lift up your head with open eyes
When to the Lord you pray

God sees the heart, and will restore
Through Christ, who reigns on high
Let all look up to Heaven’s door
Allow true hearts to fly.
