Our Eyes Met Poem by tcr moon

Our Eyes Met

Our eyes met through the mist
Of chill`d breath of the crowd.
A million poetic words were spoken
Tho’ unsaid in a silence so loud.

Her face lit up and shone on me
Like a warm beam of sunlight.
Fiery green eyes sparkled and twinkled
Like a sky full of stars at night;

But, I sensed an uneasy air,
A sadness she held in her heart.
I wanted to reach out and touch,
She seemed so close yet we were always, so far apart.

Then came tear that formed
Like a glacier of pure ice;
That sadness became so apparent,
Deftly hidden behind those emerald eyes.

Across a crowded room, smoke filled,
That stung my eyes and almost forced a tear.
I tried to smile, but she just stared with
Eyes filled with trepidation and fear

Oblivious then to the milling swarm of people,
I asked myself if I could ever make her happy;
No words were spoken, ever! The cause was lost
So I turned away, penknife in hand and carved her name into a tree.

Now it’s just a lingering memory,
A face across a crowded room.
That evening, the smoke, a million faces
And then our favoured tune…

That night is so far off, away now.
I recall it tho’, every now and then,
Relive those butterflies I so felt
When I, we were young and our eyes met….
