Our Last Moments Were... Poem by Charnele Waith

Our Last Moments Were...

Rating: 5.0

Like being thrown in the ocean when you can't swim
You can only stay afloat for so long before you sink in

And while you're at the surface you see the one that threw you
You're calling out for help but also hoping they will just see you

They take a glance and come to you and you think that you're safe
You're overjoyed and ecstatic as they reach closer to your face

But all they do lift you up a little to help you catch your breath
And then toss you back again ignoring your cries as if they were deaf

They look you dead in the eyes telling you that you'll be okay
Saying that soon it will be over, that things won't stay this way

But then they take the same hands you thought would protect you
And hold you under water while professing they love you

And instead of realizing they need to stop, you're running out of time
They keep you there until your heart stops and you die

And after you drown they want to realize what they did wrong
And jump in the ocean to try and save you but you're already gone

They drag you out the water hoping they can resuscitate you
But you lie there motionless after they've realized your value

They do a lot of talking, praying, and crying over your dead body
But no longer can you listen, it seems it's too late to say sorry
