Our Neighbors Poem by Ace Of Black Hearts

Our Neighbors

The path to redemption.
The road not taken.
The path to redemption.
Oh so very much the road not taken.
A heart that continues breaking.
A song that doesn't need repeating.
A war being waged from within constant defeat.
Keep on fighting.
Keep on dying.
Keep on trying.
Doing the very same thing expecting a different result.
A mind is under a constant assault.
Be gone, I want to be free.
I accept my current reality.
But it doesn't mean I can't change it.
Someday, someway.
So forgive me I think I stepped on your toes.
Open mouth insert foot.
A cross to bare.
That was way back then.
That was a child in a mans skin.
I give you purpose instead of overwhelming guilt.
Trying to please, what a horrid disease.
I can't change the way world works.
I can't even change your point of view.
This is not about you.
A inward look of an awkward self reflection.
Looking in the mirror the ugly beast gets all dolled up.
But if not for you then who.
Self respect, is not allowing yourself to neglect the the mind body or soul.
Taking control.
Quelling the mighty ego.
Remembering this is not show and tell.
Being calm in the most difficult situations.
Not asking for any favors from anyone.
But accepting if its offered.
Trying to catch the midnight sky on a snowy night.
Trying change so many bad habits all at once.
It can be overwhelming.
A voice speaking calmly I can do this.
A dream within dream.
The ghost that stuck in this tree.
Sometimes it easier to climb up then down.
Feet first holding on for dear life.
Grasping at staws that give cause.
That give us pause.
And I think I finally found one.
The only one.
From the very first breath I take.
To when I finally close my eyes for the very last time.
I am satisfied.
The demons now gone.
A haunting can only last so long.
Not angel with broken wings.
A hero is the last thing I ever want to be.
Save you to save me.
That was never a possibility.
The greatest illusion is we need to help someone to feel good about our self.
It should be the reverse.
With a mindset so diverse.
There shouldn't need to be a reason.
A moral compass.
An inner guidance.
It how to resolve so much of the conflict.
Squash the hate that divides us.
Whether its culture, money, sex, religion, politics, or race.
View all human beings as if their family.
Because they are.
We are all in this together on a spec of water and dirt called planet earth.
If one of us is suffering we all are.
And as I write I know so many are in places unheard of.
But my place is here with those around me.
As it should be for us all.
Imagine how much good could be accomplished.
Dissolving the wall of indifference.
They are your neighbors after all.
