Our Special Mom Poem by Katrina Bennett

Our Special Mom

Our Special Mom
As honest as the day is long,
Some say stubborn I say strong,
You always had the biggest heart,
You kept me from falling apart.
You picked me up when I was down,
You helped me turn my life around,
Determined to help me all that you could,
You did more for me than any mum ever should.
Thanks for your patience, your love and your care,
More precious than diamonds and yet more rare,
You shared my laughter, you dried my tears,
Raised all my hopes and chased all my fears.
You tried to help everyone, saw good in the bad,
And you were the best friend I ever had,
I look to summer skies and see your eyes so blue,
And I know I'll never find anyone more special than you.
No more confusion, darkness or despair,
I know you are with us, your loved ones who cared,
Your body is resting, you feel pain no more,
And your spirit is dancing, just like you did before.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
After the sad recent loss of my mother-in-law I asked my husband to make a list of all the things he thought of when he thought of his mum I then turned all these words into a poem for him. This poem was read at his mum's funeral and reduced the church to tears. For anyone who has lost their mum I hope this helps
