Paddle Faster, I Hear Banjos Poem by MARINA GIPPS

Paddle Faster, I Hear Banjos

Rating: 5.0

'I hear banjos. Paddle faster.' - Anonymous

I can breathe easy now.
Almost.
Somehow the particles are clearing up.
Slowly the smog of tobacco
Dissipates
Into dangerously thin rainforests.
I am going to be the inaugural poet.
Ha. I have decided today.
I am wearing two watches
On two separate wrists
For each swimming
In two separate rivers of grief
All at the same time.
I am a multi-tasker like God
And invisible, too, like the Devil.
I will be your best friend on Halloween
If you dare to scare your family.
I can fly high like a ghost.
Both my watches have altimeters
To tell how high I really am.
Or how very low.
I am talking to you right now in a hushed whisper.
