Pastels Poem by Reginald Goodridge

Pastels

I see you when I close my eyes
And the butters flutter by with whys

Of who’s loving you or saying sweet
Like chocolate beats and caramel treats

You got this pastel shade of feel
That burns me, hurts me, so surreal

I can’t breath, can’t shake, can’t relate
To me not holding you or us in late

Night talks and walks on ou(r) path
But that’s just a part of my(i) crash

My fall from grace my fall from you
Tell me what I’m gonna do?

Like pastels and waters, just colors and orders
My borders are smaller and jaded and faltered
Like pastels of nearness you’ve taken me fearless
I’m hurting and wounded your so gone and tearless…

I saw you just the other day
And you were up and on your way

To work or play with your new life
And me not in your joy or strife

I was your sun and moon and sky
And you were May, June and July

My summer, rain, hail, joy and pain
We’ve got to fix this try again

I can’t see, hear, speak, or refrain
From thoughts of you and your disdain

For us, we, me, you, and our claim
No more pastels, no more pain…

Like pastels and waters, just colors and orders
My borders are smaller and jaded and faltered
Like pastels of nearness you’ve taken me fearless
I’m hurting and wounded your so gone and tearless…
