Pedrógão - A Painful Fate! Poem by Jacson Gelato

Pedrógão - A Painful Fate!

Got to run, they said
our forests are on fire;
the blazing trees so uncontrollable
the raging wild fire so ruthless
how could anyone stop its betrayal
when upon other perimeters
it had imposed its destruction
without any necessity
without any compassion.
Simple people, simple village
in panic, in turbulence watched
the fire mounting,
the smoke billowing.
Got to run they said
as they jumped in their cars
but never made it,
so many got burnt
so many died
as the forest fire had enforced
its wrath, its power
making everyone so helpless;
was it of any gain
to those burning branches
to extend its support to
that fire so fierce in appearance
so destructive in action?
how much of pain
will those hearts not contain
when they will sit out and recollect
of those, they lost to that fire so devastating
those, they will never see again?
In moments all happiness had perished
turning the surroundings into ashes gray
those pleas, those cries unheard by others
when to that forest fire they lost
their voices, their prayers, their hopes
will generations ever be able to forget such fate?
