Penningtons Poem by Donna Pelan

Penningtons

I used to shop at Penningtons
That was back a few years
It was located in Georgian Mall then
A couple of doors down from Sears

I was always embarrased to be a tad overweight
But somehow in that store
A size 14 in other places
In there it was a four

I used to leave with bag in hand
And just outside the door
I`d turn the bag inside out
To hide the name of the store

I haven`t shopped at Penningtons
For a few years now
But I found myself killing time one day
And ventured in somehow

I tried on a variety of outfits
Couldent decide on any one
Carried the best choices around with me
Actually, it was kind of fun

I could tell the sales girl was getting excited
Dollar signs showed in her eyes
This could be her best sale ever
A happy bos would be her prize

My credit card had started shaking
I was getting nervous about this sale
That was quite a pile of clothing
Maybe it was time to bail

I started walking toward the cash
My saleslady was called to the phone
I looked nervously around me
And discovered that I was all alone

There was a rack close by the door
And on it a lot of space
I grabbed all the clothing from the cart
And hanged them in great haste

I opened the door and got out fast
I never did look back
I hope she wasn`t shocked to find
All the outfits on the rack

I hoped she took it all in stride
With a smile upon her face
And know tat when something seems too good to be true
That generally is the case
