Perapetia Poem by Casey Stewart

Perapetia

So long it went on
A heartbroken boy being mean to a heartbroken girl
A man swallowed whole by his own worries
A girl that gave him hope
Time passed, seasons changed
And so it seems, the table to has turned
Flipped by circumstance and by fate
No longer his problems, but hers
Why do you never write happy words? she asks
Because people may love a happy ending, but our lives are a tragedy
So long I have held onto you as you held onto me
But when you held me I was still breathing
Now I hold you and your skin is chillingly cold
What hope is there in a dead girl’s words?
Whispers of what may come, but the ground is not sturdy
And we will soon fall
What shall we hold onto as we break through this fantasy?
