Perhaps More Poem by Judith Vriesema

Perhaps More

There you were
standing in the middle of a Salzburg afternoon
unscathed by the human injustices that fell like leaves across your path.
Your face turned toward the sun trying to recapture the sea now lost,
now given way to forests, courtyards, and cafes.
There you stood in the middle of my life while I grabbed on to senseless conversations.
In one breath of air,
I lost all sense of words.
Other people conflicted and played with my thoughts while time fell away like leaves drifting in the autumn air.
There you came walking the steps across cobblestone streets to find me;
one pane of glass away from the insanity of my life.
there you stood holding my eyes while people's voices ebbed and flowed across telephone lines.
there you said I love you while legend and logic conflicted within space.
There we stood counting the minutes
only holding on to the sound of the wind that brings us back to Iceland.
