Please Dont Forget Me Poem by Gabriella Hart

Please Dont Forget Me

Sometimes i lie in bed at night,
and think about the times.
The times you used to take me out
and make up silly rhymes.

The rhymes you used to sing to me,
when i was so upset.
But now i wander to myself,
what happens when you forget.

What happens when you forget
the days we spent together.
The days we used to lay
amongst the mist and heather.

Each morning i wait by the harbour,
looking out for you.
Will I ever see that handsome man dressed in red and blue?

I always knew you were brave and strong,
a man who knew your rights.
To fight for queen and country,
and suffer those dreadful fights.

Those tearful letters you sent me,
i read them everyday.
The tales you told me
of the men who lost their lives on the way.

I was always grateful it was not you,
you fought for what was best.
But soon it was time
for you to lay amongst the rest.

A few weeks later,
i got the dreaded call.
Lost in war,
they said you suffered a great fall.

The bullett had flown right through the chest,
you dropped to your hands and knees.
I cried down the phone and said to the sky:
May you rest in peace.

I still keep the letters in the box,
amongst the other things.
The silly rhymes you sung to me,
and of course that silver ring.

You promised me you would come back for me,
but here i am once more.
Sitting by the harbour,
waiting for you to come sailing along the shore.
