Summertime brings a laureate's rhyme
Perfect wording on nature's design.
Year upon year, we read with pleasure
Of meadows green and purple heather.
He describes the waves of a glorious sea
The rainbow ~ in God's fine artistry,
A nightingale resting on the bough,
But his poems are only history now.
Yet still a rose's crimson hue
Is mentioned in anthologies new,
And the laureate's gift forever glows
In beautiful summertime prose.
August 2008.
