Poets are famously poor
It's believed they starve in garrets
Any wonder that their demeanour
Puts everyone off - they are dour!
Poets very often become famous
When they are truly dead and gone
Poetry is valued when posthumous
For others to reap what they have sown.
A poet is an indomitable soul
With faith in metre and rhyme;
No texting or messaging in a scrawl
Real words have currency - not mime.
