Point Of View Of Ishmael Beah (Child Soldier) Poem by Mandy Howard

Point Of View Of Ishmael Beah (Child Soldier)

Now that I am rehabilitated,
and feeling better.
I wish to be the spokesperson,
To deliver,
an emotionally powerful speech,
to the public,
about war soldiers,
and the pain that I felt then,
and how,
today I have started to forgive myself.

For the wrong that I have done,
and committed,
so many years ago,
oppose to those who still have,
not been rehabilitated,
because of now save-the-children,
a group of people for kids in Uganda.

Unlike UNICEF which removed me,
from the war,
when they could,
when they would've been the most able to,
save me!
With that said,
I thank you,
UNICEF,
UNICEF you have saved my life,
as well as many others,
and rehabilitated me,
to the point that I fully,
understood that it really is not my fault,
it was a life or death situation,
and I chose life,
rather than death!
