Post Breakup Acting Poem by Scott Murray

Post Breakup Acting

I remember the look on your face as you smiled at me
So open, so hopeful, so full of joyful glee,
These moments keep playing as I wind back the clock,
Just begging the little hands to please just stop,
To give me a couple of hours or seconds,
To simply stare at her flawless perfection
But time is always moving forwards
And I have to continue hobbling onwards.

You put on a face and pretend everything is alright
And eventually people stop asking and you can salvage some pride
The phone calls and texts slowly start to dwindle
And the hope that you had starts to vanish

The gap in your chest still remains
Eventually the pain becomes as common as your name
And you start to think to yourself that you are moving onward
But suddenly your memories start moving toward her
And you will hear her name being whispered in the street
And you will strain your ears and ask the person to repeat
Because hear is the truth that no one wants to say
The simple fact is you won't forget her not even for a day
You will love her forever until you go grey in the head
And you will wake up each day alone in your bed
And continue this cycle until the day you drop dead."
