Power Seized Power Retained Poem by Terence George Craddock

Power Seized Power Retained

coup d'état arising during civil wars
will shorten brutal bloody war's duration
protests spur coups help elites within state
apparatus to mobilize coordinate coups

coup-proofing regimes create structures
making it hard for any random small group
to seize their coveted power but problem

coup-proofing strategies which include
strategic placing family ethnic religious
groups in the military to create an armed

force parallel to nations regular military
incorporating multiple internal security
agencies overlapping jurisdiction constantly

monitoring one another creates fear division
Achilles heel divide conquer possibilities
coup-proofing strategies reduce risk of coups

occurring but reduces military effectiveness
weak link sought exploited in foreign invasions
national security is increased in national unity
