The childhood’s innocence ended,
When with him, you blended.
Now it remains a far away memory,
Of imitating your mother in a red sari.
Now in your womb,
You bear a sweet fruit.
The seed is strong, they said
But, oh! So are you?
Your in-laws they masqueraded,
With vows and promises so saint,
But at night they cracked the whip,
Which scarred your back and bloodied your shrieks.
Stroking your salvation you wondered,
Of your late girl child who did no blunder.
It makes you pray for this one to escape,
Before they take her and the hope they break.
Hopeless wife and helpless mother,
Alone and useless as a broken feather,
No one to sympathize in this far city
Strong for too long, burned with self pity.
Yet you make your choice,
To stay alive for that voice,
Which is listening to your thoughts,
From that void and growing strong.
The intricacies, care, pain... of motherhood are well depicted in the poem. A well articulated piece of poetry insightfully penned with conviction. A lovely poem indeed. Thanks for sharing Sanika. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
