Prayer For A Daughter Poem by Diane Shishido

Prayer For A Daughter

Would I to walk away from all that I have known and
Done for so many years and
Chose to let you, of your own volition
Carry yourself to where you need to be,
Would that not set us free?

To let the love that I feel for you
Love that is true, and not just affection
For you as my daughter,
Help carry you forward on a wind.

Let your own aspirations set you in motion
And the love that I feel for you help propel
You forward in your own locomotion
Towards your own destination
On a force that sets you aloft
And carries you to where you need to be.
