Present Tense Poem by sherrie tappenden

Present Tense

Rating: 3.5

trust in you will waver
then it's gone.
disappointing that you
will shed your skin.
the sweetest lies are hardest
to choke on
never one to be
taken in.

belief in what you stood for
it now fades.
disappointed in what
there is left to see.
everywhere the words
they sound the same
arms length held back
endlessly.

the change in you is subtle
but it's there.
disappointed in how you'll
revert to type.
the same echos sound hollow
if you care
never one to swallow
hackneyed lines

and I see clearly sometimes.
then it all starts to make sense.
sharp focus from deep within my mind.
as the past comes into present tense.
