President By Chance Poem by Francis Duggan

President By Chance

He will retire with his wife Laura to his ranch in Texas and there he will grow old and gray
And they won't be short of a dollar for himself he has done okay
And he will not be remembered for greatness as the ex President of the U S of A
He caused death, destruction and suffering in the name of freedom that is all historians of him can say.

George W Bush the President by chance only luck favoured him against Al Gore
Afghanistan and to a greater extent Iraq have been changed because of him forever more
He made some bad errors of Judgement he heeded the worst of advice
For the bombing and the invading of other Countries to pay there's always a huge price.

Because of him Iraqis are much worse off their Cities are Cities of fear
Not what you'd call a holiday destination from there only bad news we hear
And Afghanistan is not much better since the demise of the terrible Taliban
George W that many see as a messiah has become quite an ordinary man.

From the White House to their ranch in Crawford in Texas George W and Laura his wife
And they will not go short of a dollar and they will enjoy the good life
He became President by good fortune when Al Gore by lady luck was denied
And because of him too many have suffered and because of him far too many have died.
