For many years it seemed we humans are
Alone here in the universe, no sign
That life at all like ours was known as far
As anyone could tell us at the time.
The odds against development of life
Like ours on planet Earth were far too great
Despite our knowledge of the stars so rife
Within this universe, so moderate.
But lately we are told there well may be
Within our galaxy a vast array
Which one day we may then see
Have spawned a form of life, so who could say
With certainty we are indeed alone?
For that is what 'till now we've ever known.
