Promises

summer nights are coming
the moon told me so
with smiling visions
through its frozen glow
it looked upon the earth
with anticipation
lightened up the dark
so I could see the changes
before returning indoors
to meet its request
I promised an all night
when I needed to wear less
I can almost hear the crickets and the geese evening call
the crackle of a fire,
and the tune of another season's song

Poem of the Day

poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
