Promises Poem by Aeron Manabo

Promises

Rating: 5.0

Do you remember my promises?
The night I said those words.
My grip on your hands.
My knees on the floor.

I promised to stay,
and never leave.
I promised to love you,
no matter what happens.

I’ll never break that.
Do you believe me?
I’ll always fulfill that.
No matter what it takes.

Now I see you.
I remember those promises.
I see your tired smile.
I see your fragile face.

Have you ever felt you’re weak,
even though you’re strong?
Have you ever felt you’re useless,
even though you’re able?

Now I’m feeling that.
Now I’m experiencing it.
I could do nothing,
only watch.

Watch as life steals you.
Watch as your life fades.
Watch as you scream.
Watch as you leave.

Every night and day,
I cry.
Every night and day,
I die.

Could you also make a promise?
A promise like I did.
Promise me I’ll stay in my heart,
Promise me you’ll continue to love me.

For these promises make me strong.
That even though life’s miserable.
That even though you leave.
I still have something to hold on to.
