Puppy Love! Poem by Robert Edgar Burns

Puppy Love!

Shades of gold turn to dark orange,
From the fireplace, on the living room walls.
Ornate descriptive characters,
Adorn it’s fire pit with flames quite tall.

A clock handed down for generations,
Is the centerpiece of a mantle proud.
Bordered by angels, then leprechauns,
To greet friends or even small crowds.

A fire hotly stoked and burning,
Nearby brass tools in antiqued stand,
All speak hundreds of words of WELCOME,
Bellowed to every child, woman and man!

If you were to take a photograph,
There would be one thing so perfectly clear,
Is the object in the foreground,
To this family is what’s most dear!

Sprawled on it’s side so peacefully
Rests the family’s beloved dog
“Friday, ” no cares at all except family,
Dreaming of chasing butterflies and frogs!
