Pure Democracy Versus Pure Republic Poem by Pasquale DiMeola

Pure Democracy Versus Pure Republic

Pure Democracy

Plane soaring over dark ocean
Ten minutes after midnight
Most passengers wearily snoozing
Suddenly a baby begins bawling
Mother tries to pacify the infant
To no avail...the screaming gets louder
The sleepy crew awaken annoyed
They become frustrated and at their wits end
Majority want to toss the infant off board
A consensus comes to an agreement to do so
Against the mother's neglected hysteria
The newborn is thrown head first
Into the bone-chilling dark ocean
Majority are satisfied and go back to sleep.

Pure Republic

Plane soaring over dark ocean
Ten minutes after midnight
Most passengers wearily snoozing
Suddenly a baby begins bawling
Mother tries to pacify the infant
To no avail...the screaming gets louder
The sleepy crew awaken annoyed
They become frustrated and at their wits end
Majority wants to toss the infant off board
A consensus comes to an agreement to do so
Against the mother's neglected hysteria
Pilot and co-pilot are alerted by stewardess
Loud speaker is activated
"This is against the law.
The mother's rights will be protected.
Regardless of your majority."
Common sense prevails.
