Questions (Yes Or No, Tick The Box, Move On Up The Front) Poem by Sean Joyce

Questions (Yes Or No, Tick The Box, Move On Up The Front)

OK, did you make a resolution to smile
- and then expect the Sun to shine?

Are the stars about to twinkle
was she your real mother
and will she be back again?

Is all this reflected
in a bubble somewhere
out there out of sight?

Did you have fantastic dreams
that now you can’t recall?

Did someone sing a lullaby,
or has that not happened yet?

Were you buffeted about in the after life
as if you were a Butterfly?
(Were what, a Butterfly?)
No, buffeted about?

Did all this happen in a secret place?
Are there places so secret
that nobody knows about them?
Yes - but we ask the questions.

If you answered yes
or no, then that’s OK
and remember whether
you are tab A or slot B
you still have a purpose
’a reason for being here.

And if you are unsure
of which is which and
don't know what to do
- that too is part of
the big picture.

So, try to fulfil your roll.
Don’t overdo the smiling bit
and for God sake – straighten up
