Rabbit Hole Poem by Eric Paeplow

Rabbit Hole

Time ticking, time passing on, down the proverbial drain it goes
Are we really here, or is the Cat's smile disappearing, who knows
With each dawn's break, each sunset's fade, as it drops silently below
Leaves us all, one less day left, to watch it all unfold

Left or right, up or down, which way do I go from here
No need to worry my dear, after all, we're all mad people here
And if you thought you knew who you were, when last you woke
You will surely change, several times more, before you croak

So be what you seem to be, or if you'd like it put more easily
Never be otherwise, than what you might wish yourself to be
So others may see, only that which, you wish yourself to appear to be
Every story's got a moral, if only you can find it, no, not here, but there

So, where shall I begin, I shall begin at the beginning
And go on until I've come to the end, then stop once again
For of all the things I've seen, I've often seen a cat without a grin
But a grin without a cat, is the most curious thing I've ever seen
