A friend sleeps
In a midnight tree house
But I lie on my back
And count the dancing stars,
The illuminated souls
Drifting in timelessness.
There is so much suffering
Every day in the superficial rush
To measure time by success,
But I’ll return again
Thousands of years from now
After I’ve learned
To love and to smile.
I’ve known great artists
Who closed their eyes prematurely
At the zenith of their creativity,
And I’ve known children
Who’ve died in the crib
Or in automotive accidents.
Life is the fragile gift
That is only on loan;
While I’m here,
I’m trying
To put my heart and feelings
In a poem.
Read me in a quiet place
Where your soft tears
Can fall from vulnerable eyes
Upon my lonely page.
Everything will be redeemed
And nothing will vanish
Into the oblivion of insignificance:
Eternity will find us
And embrace us
In loving arms.
An eloqent and haunting poem. Your skill, and soul, shine through. You speak volumes in few words. - - - -Will
