Red-Wing Blackbird Poem by Gail Garrison

Red-Wing Blackbird

Rating: 5.0

'I saw one today' says G.S.

Well, I didn't.
Not really one of our birds
right here in town.

But I remember the one
who couldn't fly real well-
used to come to our bird feeder in Springfield.
The females don't have red wings-
ain't black either.

I like this, Gail. I'm particularly taken by what is not said directly, a sense of cynicism, and perhaps sadness, underneath everything. Don
