Redcliffe Bay Poem by Peter Edwards

Redcliffe Bay

Redcliffe Bay

Snow white sentry stands
Alone above the craggy rocks
Before the swirling tide and shifting sands
Its pulsing eye wide, keeping watch.

Long sharp serrated scars
Cut foaming patterns in the tide
Along these deep channelled paths
Strong beds of kelp are brushed aside

Swift stillness comes after rapid advance
The silence broken by seagull cries
As coloured flotsam and driftwood dance
Together on this moonlit glass.

With flags aflutter ships steam slowly by
Showing off their colours of lands from far away
Pale watchful eye that guards and guides
Stands so strong through crashing waves

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
On a local coastal path we walk above the rocks looking across the Bristol channel with ships & boats passing. There is a small white lighthouse perched on metal legs watching over then as the tides rise and fall.
