Regina's Poems #142: Empty Seats

Mr Stricker
allows me and Colt and Regina and Laura
to drive to Oklahoma City

to visit Ian
who got tore up in a wreck.
He’s over there gettin rehab

though what that means I don’t know
on account of they say
he ain’t never gonna walk again.

Seems like every year
just before graduation
another one of us gets kilt or worse.

You’d think we’d learn.
But we don’t.
