Resolutions Poem by Gordon Ayisi

Resolutions

Rating: 4.5

Years saunter to their ends
With all the twists and bends.
We were absolved and resolved.
we congregated and converged;
To keep to our resolutions on end.

Successful or otherwise it may be,
I strode, strove and yielded to Thee,
My God, who art my greatest strength.
Piecemeal I did put out my efforts to mirth,
But my gait was too fast to achieve the GIRTH.

Oh! My goals I set, my dreams I dreamt.
But to no avail or NOT!
Nay! New aspirations and dreams spring up,
Valueless vigour, verve and vitality I burp.
To the new year I knoweth not what to usurp.

The verisimilitude to the culmination
Spears through the orifice of perspiration.
Darn it! My resolutions I resuscitate and intimate;
Every quarter of the 365 days, you bet.
My recompense, my GUERDON is the climactic tempest.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I was inspired by me. As years go by, I make countless resolutions but hardly ever keep to it. I know this piece travels to the core.

Now that's one piece that exposes my weakness and challenges it. I now have something to support me from behind while i intend to keep my resolutions. Thanks brother.

A well articulated poem nicely written in high level grammar to capture the conviction of the poet. I like the rhyme scheme of the piece. A lovely poem indeed. Thanks for sharing and do keep it up. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
