Restless Winds Poem by Kaushi H. Jayawardena

Restless Winds

Rating: 4.0

Parted lips,
Bated breath.
Expectations. Then,
Frustration, annoyance.
Rise up doubts and fears
Play your cruel game.

My hand darts out
Feels the wind
The writhing, dancing wind,
Restless on my skin.
Blowing – constant, constant
No stop, no detour,
No rest?
Just dancing an icy jig
Upon my outstretched arm,
Cavorting in and out
Of my hair,
Till no sane curl is left.
Now a sudden, all-encompassing gale
Englutting my whole self.
Then a warm gust that
Grazes my cheek
Hesitating on a teardrop
Of anger,
And changing its course…

Oh, you entrancing,
Exasperating thing.
Oh. You happy,
Miserable creature,
Leave,
For I am in need of peace
In my heart.
My restless,
Restless, restless heart.
