Revolution And The Believer Poem by George Tumaob Calaor

Revolution And The Believer

I was reminded of a submissive General Emilio Aguinaldo...
when you anointed coal dust on my forehead.
I remembered how General Aguinaldo killed Andres Bonifacio
and jailed the wounded Bonfacio's brother, Procopio.

Yes, I remembered how this General cheated the elections of the Katipunan
to grabbed the leadership of katipuneros from Bonifacio!
my thought also revisited the time when
Conquistadors of Spain lead by Ferdinand Magellan
docked their sails on the shoreline of our country
and spread Christianity as their tool of establishing
their rule on our land--and those will not kneel and praise their cross
will ruthlessly be judged by the blaze of their swords!

I also remember the time when Spain sold our country to America
at the eve of the victory of the 1896 Revolution
the time when General Aguinaldo exiled himself to hide in Hongkong
and conceded to American dictate to go back
to our country at be declared as the First President of the Republic
in the guise of a fake independence!

I was reminded of these when you sketched a cross
on my forehead and I said amen…

in the names of fathers, mothers
and children--the gods and makers
of the history of liberation…

and in the name of the winning time
of gaining the fullness of the victory
of Revolution!

Amen!
