Rewind Poem by G J Salgado

Rewind

Let's go back and rewind
Once upon a time
When music meant something
When we gave all or nothing
It was something you could feel
Worth it to beg, borrow, and steal
Making it when your dreams were real
Before all of the useless lies and backstabbing scheming
Songs were sung between the screaming
When all the lyrics actually had some meaning
Not made from social media and all that fuss
I'm writing from my heart and mind while you're rapping about your puss
Now we're in a world where strippers are becoming rappers
Words are twisted while the mic drops even faster
While you stop to take a selfie or it didn't happen
Look at the many masks we're within
No one knows what you really look like anymore
You pretend to be someone else as soon as your feet hit the floor
Incognito from birth as soon as they open the door
Singed from the famous flames
Born into the luxury of fame
They won't know you but everyone knows your name
