River Styx Poem by Dereck Gibbs

River Styx

Sitting mournfully right here
Here on this bank of desolation
Regretting my oaths that bound me
Promises lacking consideration

Charon calls my name
Its time to do my time
In a place where time lacks meaning
This my journey to Hades

River man paid his fee
The voyage commences silently
Cold creeps in, chewing on fresh meat
My eyes bleed in an attempt to cry

Looking beseechingly at Charon
Silent words begging to be set free
Hooded figure uncaring
Seemingly bored of this familiar plea

Resigned to defeat I look upwards
This my journey to Hades
A sad one with no happy ending
This Hades of the heart broken

Waves of rejection battered me
Driven to commit myself to this folly
A moment of weakness preyed upon
And here I am on this fateful river called solitude
