Rivers Edge Poem by Lillianythe

Rivers Edge

Sitting by the rivers edge
Red petals fall all around me
I stare into the misty river
Tears falling from my eyes
I look upon my reflection
So alone in solitude
Then In the reflection I see your face
Staring back up at me
I turn from the water
Not bearing to look
Why are you haunting me
Not willing to let go
I feel your arms around me
Softly kissing my neck
I cry harder into my palms
Then I look to the floor where my dagger lay
I stroke it with one finger
Taking deep breathes I pick it up
So shiny and beautiful
I turn the dagger so it is facing me
Then I hear your voice
I shake my head not willing to believe it
Then I hear it again
I turn to see you standing there
A worried look upon your face
Dropping the dagger I get to my feet
Running to you I forget everything
I throw my arms around you
Holding on for dear life
Don’t leave me again I cry into your shoulder
You hold me that little tighter
I know you won’t hurt me again
I turn to see that the dagger is gone
As you lead me away by the hand
And then I see it
A girl sitting by the river
With a dagger in her hand
