Road To Nowhere Poem by John Fenton Mcleish

Road To Nowhere

walking 'round airports
wandering through terminals
sniffer dogs sniff bums
where do all these people go
many bodies I don't know
kaleidoscope face
multicultural rat race
check in at the gates
black hair blonde brown eyes blue
muslim, Buddhist and hindu
lost in a moment
unconscious of this time
as they queue in line
security screener beeps
'please take those shoes off your feet'
passport, stamp, visa
like dolls stand at the scanner
zombies, sleepwalkers
meaningless lives they lead
every colour and creed
herd mentality
as blind as cattle can be
but they think they're free
they don't even know they're dead
believe the lies they've been fed
all have reasons here
scurry like ants to get there
but going nowhere
