Sadness At Christmas Poem by Marilyn Lott

Sadness At Christmas

I think we take way too much for granted
When our life is not going wrong
But when that changes, it is so difficult
We are not uplifting, optimistic and strong.

Perhaps we just lost a loved one
Our heart is filled with such pain
Tomorrow has no brightness in it
We question every single thing.

Maybe someone we love has failing health
Or maybe we are sick and scared
We might not like to talk about it
Though, it usually helps when it is shared.

Perhaps, we are alone this year at Christmas
No tree to light up our empty life
No children to spend this time with
No parent, no husband or wife.

For so many are in the Armed Forces
Not only gone, but in harm's way
An extra smile, well, just plain wouldn't hurt
For smiles can help brighten up a day.

So if you know of someone who suffers
You might bow your head in prayer
Or in so many ways you can always
Reach out and let them know you care.

Bless you always and keep you and yours
Healthy and safe in the New Year.

This is so very true, Marilyn. Last year I went through something like this. It was the saddest Christmas of my whole entire life. I made a vow that I will never have a Christmas like last year, Children or no children. All my children are all grown up and guess what I was all alone, having no turkey or no special dinner or anything. NEVER again, alone or not. Thank you for sharing this fantastic poem.

Eva Mae, I am so sorry that you had to go through times of such loneliness. You are right to plan ahead and never have to go through this again. God Bless you, my dear! I'm glad you can relate to my poem and know too that so many people are hurting this time of year. Thank you for your comment! You are in my prayers.
